Copenhagen Around and along the Strøget

Everything you must-do in a 5-minute walk from city centre

Hotel D’Angleterre is a perfect starting point for a day spent walking around the city centre. There’s no need to be a guest at “The Grand Dame of Copenhagen” to enjoy their breakfast either (especially the spectacular Sunday Champagne brunch which comes highly recommended). After breakfast, turn right when you leave the hotel, and take the first right after that, into the famous pedestrian street: Strøget. Over one kilometre long, this street offers a mix of restaurants and shops, along with a couple beautiful squares, where sidewalk cafes make for a great interlude from the walking and shopping.Along this busy street, you will find a great mix of specialty stores and among other treats, the luxury department store Illum and further south, the famous Royal Copenhagen brand shops: Georg Jensen and The Royal Porcelain… and let’s not forget the temple to all things design: Illum’s Bolighus. The side-streets that fishbone on both sides are also worthy of exploration, featuring art galleries, next to smaller, independent shops and brands. Just around the corner.

Just around the corner

Before you get caught up in the world of mass-produced goods, look out for a small, narrow entrance to a lane named Pistol Street (Pistolstræde). It’s about 200 meters down on Strøget, to your right, before the first street crosses the pedestrian street, marked with a traffic light. Wander on down to enjoy the funky shops and a few beautiful examples of medieval architecture. As you near the end of the lane it makes a sharp right turn. The Spectacle Tailor.

Just after the turn, on the left, is the shop you should make the point of interest on this morning: Cold Heggem. This is a small but fabulous and rare shop, where they make amazing and impressive, customised, tailor-made spectacles and glasses, in natural materials, horn and wood. Any lover of design and craftsmanship will love this little gem of a shop, and be awed by their amazing collection of designs and wares.
