When it comes to interior design, Munich doesn't have to hide behind the big design cities like Copenhagen, Milan or Paris – it’s got its own style.
Munich is a city that loves tradition, but it is by no means closed to modernity. Rather, it has developed its own style, because as far as design is concerned, it manages to successfully implement the balancing act between modernity and tradition. This can be applied to all areas, be it jewellery, fashion, architecture or interior design. But let’s take a closer look at the latter so you know where to buy the best design pieces.
Mobilificio has taken on the theme of extraordinary design. Here you will only find pieces by the best furniture designers in Germany with regionalism playing an important role. Many of the furniture pieces were made from local woods and fit perfectly into the portfolio of Mobilificio (Italian for furniture factory). Why Italian? Italy is known to be the origin of design and Munich is “the northernmost city of Italy”.
Individuality, exclusivity and quality are written in capital letters at Wagner Möbel Manufaktur. Founded in 1946, they produce furniture for both commercial and private premises. A visit to the Munich showroom is definitely worthwhile in order to get an idea of this. Wagner Möbel Manufaktur’s craftsmanship is known far beyond the borders of Germany.
Oberpollinger has become an indispensable part of Munich. The department store is an institution that stands by its traditional values, but also keeps up with the times. Since the beginning of 2017, the Oberpollinger department store has had its own floor on the fourth floor dedicated exclusively to the theme of living and design: Oberpollinger living. Pieces by renowned designer brands such as Vitra, but also traditional design by the Meissen porcelain manufactory are found throughout the store. If you need a break after so many beautiful impressions, you can make yourself comfortable in the Café Milchbar.
The Ambiente Direct Flagship Store is the first of its kind. In 2018, the online shop opened its first local store in the centre of Munich – a rather unusual step for an online retailer. But now you can see and touch furniture locally. For the customer, shopping is still a truly tangible experience, though you may be overwhelmed by the variety of furniture, styles and brands.
