Rome What's New in 2019

All the events to mark in your calendar

If you are trying to discover all the most exclusive events that will happen in 2019, search no more. From music to food, lots will be happening in Rome from January onwards. Well-known events and niche performances will satisfy the tastes and passions of all visitors to the Eternal City, who will be able to collect memories of gallivanting around monuments and history, all in typical Roman style!

Philip Glass Night

The famous American composer returns to Rome to give a touch of contemporaneity to the Teatro dell’Opera’s programme. Successful operas and symphonies made him known throughout the world, thanks to numerous collaborations with artists such as Twyla Tharp, Allen Ginsberg, Woody Allen and David Bowie. From Friday, March 29th to Tuesday, April 2nd, 2019, four titles will animate the evenings: Danzo, In Three Movements with the dance school students, first soloists and Étoiles

of the Ballet. Hearts & Arrows will be exclusively premiering. All costumes will be designed and created by the Dior House.

Taste of Rome

The gastronomic event followed by locals and food lovers. For seven years, during the third weekend of September, chefs from all over Italy have been animating the Auditorium designed by Renzo Piano with food-related experiences, tastings, talks and cooking shows. Stands will also offer children and family-oriented activities to spend a pleasant day enjoying good food and drinks.

Italian Open Tennis Tournament

A sport (and rather elite) event, held at the Foro Italico, an Olympic structure made in 1932 by Mussolini, now the sports complex of the capital located at the foot of Monte Mario. A real marble and sculpture reference point in the northern part of Rome. From May 6th to 19th, the most renowned Italian tennis tournament will await all Rome locals and not only. Comprehensive hospitality packages will also be available to make the experience complete and perfect. You will meet legends like Nadal but also filmmakers, actors and politicians.

Rock in Roma Summer Fest 2019

The most anticipated music festival of the year will be held at five different locations: the open-air Cavea – Auditorium Parco della Musica, Capannelle racecourse, House of Jazz, Roman Theatre of Ostia Antica and Circus Maximus. Rock in Roma and Roma Summer Fest get together to transform the Capital into a benchmark for international music. Artists like Elton John, Sting, Bjork, Leonard Cohen, Bob Dylan, The National, José Carreras, Patti Smith, Arctic Monkeys, Simple Minds and Ringo Starr will return to Italy to warm up the Roman nights.

Andy Warhol

For the 25th anniversary of the Andy Warhol Museum in Pittsburgh, the Vatican Museums will collaborate on an exhibition of the artist’s religious works, including paintings from the series inspired by Leonardo’s Last Supper. It will be very interesting to get to know the spiritual aspect of the rebel of contemporary art: a dialogue between two distant but interlacing worlds. The exhibition will be held in the 1,000-square-meter space of the Braccio di Carlo Magno. The date is still unknown, but it has been confirmed!
