Just one thing was missing in Rome: a luxury department store capable to compete with all the other world capitals... Until today.

On October 12, 2017, the second Rinascente flagship store – after the one in Milan which opened exactly 100 years ago – will be inaugurated, making a true revolution in the shopping, design and culture scene of the city life. In the historical centre, just a few steps from the Trevi Fountain and Piazza di Spagna, in via del Tritone, a unique, intrinsically “Roman” as well as international and futuristic empire will be opened.

It took eleven years of renovation works to create an ambitious project that hosts major designers in an avant-garde structure that, at the same time, brings to life the great Roman past as Capital of the World. Thanks to the renovation, an ancient treasure was unearthed: The Aqua Virgo ruins from 19 BC. The ruins can be visited freely, admired from the coffee bar, or even attended during cultural events that will be organized in the Exhibition Area, with the first Design Supermarket in town overlooking it.

The twentieth century Palazzo del Tritone hosts – like in a Chinese box game – a small building called “Palazzetto”, a veritable palace within the palace and an integral part of the overall construction.

The revamp of the store has been entrusted, floor by floor, to big names in architecture and design, starting with the façade and the entire project, designed by Vincent Van Duysen. Past and future come together throughout eight floors devoted to the best in fashion, beauty, design and gastronomy – including the rooftop terraces on the sixth floor, featuring an exciting view over one of the most beautiful cities in the world. Visitors get a 180-degree panorama of St Peter’s Dome, the Basilica of Sant’Andrea delle Fratte, Borromini’s Bell Towers, Villa Borghese and the Quirinale Palace. As for the table, dining proposals in the store come from MadeITerraneo restaurant of starred-chef Riccardo Di Giacinto, pizza&bubbles by Cantine Feudi di San Gregorio, Temakinho Japanese-Brazilian fusion restaurant and Juice & Salad organic bar.
